Dowdales School Sport Cluster News.  Spring 2010

We have had a very busy time here at Dowdales and throughout our cluster primary schools this term. Our leaders have worked tirelessly to judge Gymnastics, Referee Hockey, Rugby and Football and also leading a variety of activities via Yr 11 leaders in primary schools. Here are some results and photos from these events.

January 27th  Quick Sticks for Yr 3 and 4.

Five teams of eager hockey players from George Romney, Askam and Ireleth came to D.A.S.H. to play for the honour of representing Dowdales Cluster at the Partnership event to be held on Feb 9th at Ulverston. Everyone had a great time and Ireleth and George Romney came 1st and 2nd so became our representatives at Ulverston. Well done to both those teams. Thanks go to J.P., Jacob, Glenn, Rebecca, Derrie, Laura and Nyomi for helping out with this event.

Gymnastics.

Four new gymnastic judges were trained to help judge the Key Steps Gym competitions held at Chapel St and D.A.S.H. Well done to Kiana, Gemma, Lucie, and Brogan.

Key Step One for Yr 1 and 2 was held at Chapel St School on Mar 1st. There were 6 teams entered and the standard of gymnastics for such a young age was nothing short of fantastic. Our large school winners were Chapel St School and our small school winners were Lindal and Marton. Here are some pictures of the future ‘Beth Tweddles’ of the Dalton area.

The Key Step 2 and 3 Competitions were held here at D.A.S.H. Six teams entered the Key Step 2 and 5 the Key Step 3. Lindal and Marton won both events and will represent the area in the small schools competition and Dalton St Mary’s and Askam will be our representatives for the large schools. Well done to all gymnasts who took part.
A big thank you to all the judges who assisted at these events :-
Sarah, Rachel, Leigh-Anne, Charlotte, Kiana, Gemma, Lucie,  Brogan, Matthew and Reuben.

Stop Press.

Congratulations go to Chapel St School who continued their run of success and won the Furness Partnership competition. They now go on along with Lindal and Marton to represent the Furness area in the County Finals on June 12th – We wish them all the best of luck.

Tag Rugby 9th Mar.

Dowdales bottom field was alive with enthusiastic tag players from George Romney, Askam, Dalton St Mary’s and Lindal and Marton. The event was smoothly refereed by our own qualified rugby contingent and at the end of some very fine play Askam were crowned our tag rugby champions. Well done to Matthew H, Matthew B, Alex, Joe, Sam and Glenn for some fine officiating and coaching and to all the players for trying so hard.

High Fives Netball Festival on 25th Mar.

The final competition of the Spring Term saw 4 eager teams play their hearts out for the chance to represent our cluster in the High Fives Competition. The matches were ably umpired by our Yr 10 and 11 leaders and the weather though chilly was fine. Champions on the day were Dalton St Mary’s who will play here at D.A.S.H. in the cluster finals on 15th April. Good luck to them and well done to all players and leaders who took part.

It certainly has been a busy term but lots of fun for all concerned!
Dowdales Leaders should be proud of their reputation of being highly organised, efficient and friendly.

Quick Sticks for Yr 3 and 4 Nov 4th

D.A.S.H. Centre was the venue for the first ever Quick Sticks event for our cluster. Yr 3 and 4 pupils from all cluster schools were invited to come and try this new sport. Nine Yr 10 and 11 leaders coached the pupils and then they all had a go at playing the game. It was a big success and I hope that all schools will manage to enter a team in the Quick Sticks competition next term.

Here are four pictures showing the pupils and how they got on.

Nov 10th Yr 1 and 2 Try Table Tennis!

Seventeen keen and excited Yr 1 and 2 pupils came to the Dowdales Gym to try their hand at Table Tennis. The leaders did an excellent job showing them how to do the skills involved and I am sure we have some budding stars of the future.
