....... To St James Junior School, Dane Ghyll, Victoria Juniors and Newbarns Primary who will be attending the Cumbria Schoolympics on July 1st to represent the partnership in Quicksticks hockey, MSC and Kwik Cricket.

Although an extremely busy term, it has been an enjoyable one where pupils have worked well with one another, experienced new sports and 'had a a go'.

Key Steps Gym

This year the Furness Academy Key Steps Gymnastic competitions were held across both South and North site. Pupils from across the cluster attended one of the 2 venues to take part in either key steps 1, 2 or 3. Trained gym judges from the Furness Academy supported Mrs Wright and Mr Rabone with the scoring of the gymnasts along with Gemma Robinson from Furness College.

In total 120 pupils took part in the competition from 8 different schools. All pupils did extremely well and had obviously put alot of time and effort into practicing their routine. Thank You to the schools gymnastic coaches who have worked hard with their pupils.

Two teams from each level of key step compettion were chosen to represent the Furness Academy at the Partnership final.

Year 4 Quicksticks Competition

Following the very successful come and try session, a Year 4 cluster competition was held on Jan 21st to determine which teams would be selected to got through to the partnership final on Feb 9th. Seven teams arrived at centre sports hall - North Site, all ready for their first taste of a quicksticks hockey game. Newbarns, Dane Ghyll, St Georges, St James, Greengate Juniors and two teams from Victoria Juniors all played very well and took to the new game. The pupils all experienced coaching and umpiring and excelled at this as well as at the playing. Two leaders from north site also assisted with the event, and they along with the staff from the schools must be thanked for their hard work.

After playing 3 or 4 games, the four top teams were selected to go and represent the Furness Academy at the Partnership Final at Ulverston Astro Turf. Well Done to Dane Ghyll, Victoria Juniors, St James and Newbarns and good luck.

Year 3 and 4 Quicksticks hockey

On October 10th, 69 Year 3 and 4 pupils from the Furness Academy cluster schools attended a Quicksticks hockey come and try session at North site.

“It was a really good experience, for myself as a sports volunteer, and for the primary schools too.”                                          Jenna Moran – SIS Volunteer

All of the pupils attending thoroughly enjoyed the session and were keen to develop Quicksticks hockey further in their own schools. The pupils worked their way through a variety of hockey ‘drills’ with the leaders and moved on to a game situation at the end of the session. Both the leaders and pupils taking part did not want the session to be over and are looking forward to the Quicksticks competition to be held on January 21st. The invaluable help of the 9 sports volunteers from both South and North site was key to the success of the evening. They worked hard and were excellent coaches.

 Year 2 Mini Olympics

On October 6th we held our first competitive event for the Academy across both sites. 6 schools attended with a total of 132 pupils taking part. Well Done to everyone.
